Il viaggio verso l’Oscar di Nomadland presegue a gonfie vele , infatti il film di Chloe Zhao, eletto Miglior Film del 2020 dal London Critics’ Circle. Oltre il riconoscimento più ambito, anche quello per la Miglior Interpretazione Femminile di Frances McDormand, e per la Miglior Sceneggiatura.
Come è andata la serata dei London Critics’ Circle?
L’horror britannico Saint Maude ha praticamente replicato il cammino di Nomadland, in chiave inglese. Il film di Rose Glass, infatti, ha chiuso la serata come miglior film britannico/irlandese dell’anno, così come la sua protagonista Morfydd Clark ha vinto la categoria attrice britannica/irlandese dell’anno. C’è stato spazio anche per la regista inglese, premiata come regista britannica/irlandese di successo. Steve McQueen è stato nominato Miglior Regista dell’Anno per la serie Small Axe; Chadwick Boseman ha vinto un riconoscimento postumo per Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.

Riz Ahmed è stato nominato attore britannico / irlandese dell’anno per il suo lavoro in Sound of Metal e Mogul Mowgli. E il cortometraggio che Ahmed ha scritto, prodotto e interpretato, The Long Goodbye diretto da Aniel Karia, è stato nominato British / Irish Short Film of the Year.
